Description

Microsoft Research India is inviting applications for its Research Fellows Program, a fully on-site internship based in Bangalore, Karnataka, designed to provide exposure to world-class research and cutting-edge technology. The program enables candidates to work closely with leading researchers on impactful projects in computer science and AI, helping them build strong foundations for careers in research, engineering, or entrepreneurship. The role involves hands-on experience in solving real-world problems, contributing to innovative solutions, and working in a highly collaborative environment. Candidates must complete the application process by submitting a resume, at least one letter of recommendation, and filling out the RF Candidate Interest Form to align their skills and interests with suitable projects.

Responsibilities

• Work as a Research Fellow at Microsoft Research India for a duration of 1 to 2 years
• Develop core algorithms in areas such as Machine Learning, Optimization, Cryptography, contributing to advanced research problems
• Work on large-scale retrieval models and systems, handling real-world data and scalability challenges
• Contribute to reliable reasoning with large language models, improving model accuracy and robustness
• Focus on improving inclusivity of large language models, ensuring broader usability and fairness
• Design and build infrastructure for AI training and inference workloads, supporting high-performance computing needs
• Collaborate with researchers and teams to deliver impactful research outcomes across academic, industry, and societal domains

Requirements

• Bachelor’s (BE/BTech/BS) or Master’s (ME/MTech/MS) degree in Computer Science or related fields
• Strong academic performance, demonstrating consistent learning ability and subject knowledge
• Solid problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and analytical ability (raw smarts)
• Good development and programming skills relevant to research and software development
• Passion for research, innovation, and advanced technologies in computer science
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research-driven environment
• Willingness to work on-site in Bangalore with less than 25% travel requirements
